Flavoured coffee is not automatically bad, and good flavoured coffee is not just syrup. The cheap reputation comes from sugary syrups added in the cup or low-grade beans drowned in artificial flavour. We Are Coffee Co takes a different route: a natural, food-grade flavour is infused into a quality coffee bean after roasting, with no added sugar, so the coffee still tastes like coffee.
Flavoured coffee is not one thing. Some versions are syrup added to a finished drink. Some are low-grade coffee covered by heavy flavour. Proper flavoured coffee is different: it starts with real coffee and uses flavouring to shape the cup, not hide it.
This page is about taste and product quality, not health advice. The factual point is that We Are Coffee Co flavoured coffees use a natural, food-grade flavour infused into the bean after roasting, with no added sugar.
The short answer
Flavoured coffee is not automatically bad, and it is not automatically syrup. The poor reputation comes from products where the flavour is doing all the work and the coffee underneath is an afterthought.
Our flavoured coffees are small-batch roasted in Glasgow, then infused after roasting. They are built to taste like coffee with a clear flavour note: caramel, hazelnut, biscotti, mocha or vanilla.

Where the bad reputation comes from
The first problem is syrup. Cafe syrups are added to the cup after brewing. They can be enjoyable, but they are not the same as flavoured coffee beans. They change the drink after the coffee has already been made.
The second problem is poor coffee. If a coffee base tastes flat or harsh, heavy flavouring can be used to cover it. That is the version many sceptical drinkers have in mind when they ask whether flavoured coffee is bad.
The better question is not "is flavoured coffee bad?" It is "what is the coffee base, how is it flavoured, and does it still taste like coffee?"
How proper flavoured coffee is different
Proper flavoured coffee should be transparent about the mechanism. We infuse a natural, food-grade flavour into the bean after roasting. There is no added sugar. The flavour holds through grinding, brewing and cold extraction.
The flavour should also make sense. Salted caramel is rounded and toffee-led. Vanilla is softer and works well with milk. The flavour leads the product, but the coffee should still be present.
You can explore the flavoured range if you want to compare the options.
But is it bad for me?
We do not make health claims for flavoured coffee. The factual answer is narrower: our flavoured coffees contain no added sugar, and the flavour is infused into the bean after roasting. What you add yourself, such as milk or sugar, is your choice.
That framing matters. "No added sugar" is a product fact. It is not a health promise, and it should not be stretched into one.
How to tell good from bad
Look for five signals: a named flavouring approach, a real coffee base, no added sugar if that matters to the cup you want, clear format information, and a roaster willing to explain the method.
We Are Coffee Co flavoured coffees come as whole beans or omni grind. Omni grind is one all-purpose ground format.
