Will this taste like proper coffee?

Yes. San Lorenzo is speciality grade, scoring SCA 84+. The raspberry, cherry, chocolate and almond fudge are the result of origin, altitude and processing, not workarounds for removing caffeine.

How does sugarcane decaffeination work?

Ethyl acetate extracted naturally from sugarcane bonds to caffeine molecules and removes them gently. It preserves more aromatic compounds than methylene chloride or Swiss Water methods.

How much caffeine is actually in a decaf coffee?

The sugarcane (ethyl acetate) method removes around 97% of the coffee's naturally occurring caffeine. A typical cup of decaf contains roughly 2 to 7mg, against about 80 to 100mg in a regular cup of filter coffee. Not zero, but a small fraction.

Why does decaf usually disappoint?

Most decaf starts as lower-grade commodity beans. If the green coffee lacks flavour to begin with, no process can create it. San Lorenzo starts as SCA 84+ speciality grade.

Every bean of our Colombian Sugarcane Decaf hails from the meticulous endeavours of smallholder farmers in Rio Sucio, Caldas. This coffee is the fruit of the combined efforts of the San Lorenzo indigenous group, part of the Cooperativa de Caficultores.

The sugarcane decaffeination process , using ethyl acetate derived from Colombian sugarcane , preserves the bean's natural character while removing 99.9% of caffeine. The result is a decaf that tastes like real coffee, with all the sweetness and body you'd expect.
